Which circuit boards do you buy?

How is the price of circuit boards determined?
By three factors: the grade of the board (metal concentration), the weight of the lot, and the international market price of the metals (gold, silver, copper, palladium). A server motherboard is worth far more per kilo than a power supply — which is why correct grading matters.
How much gold is in a circuit board?
It depends on the grade, but as a reference the EPA notes that a tonne of boards can contain 40 to 800 times more gold than a tonne of mined gold ore. Recovery takes place in specialised metallurgical processes, starting from properly graded lots.
Is it worth separating boards from the rest of the scrap?
Always. A graded lot of boards is valued on its metal content; mixed into general scrap, it gets paid as ordinary scrap. We can advise on how to separate at your plant to maximise the value.
